For as long as I remember I always had two jobs during my early to mid twenties. Full time school and full time work or Work, part time school and an internship or just some kind of extra pay check on top of my everyday career/schooling.My drive to learn more and make ends meet was very high. However it starts to get more difficult to manage two full time jobs as you get older and take on more responsibilities.
I decided to look into other ways to increase my savings or save up for trips and learn some tricks on the side at the same time.
Below are some of the ways I continue to make some extra cash for when I want to bring in extra income for my savings of some kind. Usually my vacation budget!
Selling pre-owned electronics.
I know what you are thinking.. this can be dangerous on the some of the local apps they have out there. But I’m here to tell you Swappa is one of my favorite apps. They do all the work for you. They ask you about the condition of your product, how you should sell it and you can sell it that way to the community. They now have Swappa local where you can sell locally. This is a safer method than selling it by yourself on craigslist on other apps.
For some reason I always think buying or selling electronics is super dangerous or that I could get scammed. Swappa becomes the middle man and takes all of that work out for you. Now with Swappa Local you have the opportunity to buy and sell locally, with trust and safety in mind. Swappa Local is the first local marketplace that reviews and approves listings before they can be sold, so you can trust the tech you buy.
This way I can sell my used electronics that are laying around the house for some extra cash for a trip or vice versa. See how much you can make!
Marie Kondo your closet and sell your gently used clothing/Furniture/Knick knacks
I can’t even count the number of times i bought something on final sale.. went home, never wore the item and five months later thought wow i will never wear this but it’s just too beautiful and new to donate. Now i am all about donating however these days i heard all types of information about how donated clothing is sold to textile recycling firms. Therefore, on my nicer, gently used or newer items I’d rather sell cheaply to someone that will actually enjoy them.
Here are some sources i recommend using: eBay, Poshmark, IG, and Letgo. Also check out your local consignment stores like Plato’s closet, clothes mentor and Uptown Cheapstake.I sold a 15 year old sweater i wore twice for $15.. i purchased it for $20.
Market Research
Sign up to take paid surveys. Chances are your expertise are needed. I never thought my background would be helpful till i signed up and realized there are companies looking for knowledge of the industry. Just be sure you do not revealing private company data. That is always a no no and your employer can find out and you will get let go. There are also lots of services you can join to review products. That can be fun and you can receive some household products in return.
Companies with paid surveys:
Swagbucks
Cinchdollars
Tutoring
Tutoring people that need your advice on things you are knowledgeable on. There are schools you can sign up at or join your local community and post what your services are. I remember paying $60 an hour for help in chemistry in high school. That was so much money to me then but i was willing to split it to have someone explain questions to me in detail.
Transcribing
If you are a fast typer I highly recommend you look into transcribing. There are so many companies looking for individuals to transcribe their audio files/ Video files for them. I dd this for a while and I wasn’t even the best at it but the audio files were always interesting content and I made some extra cash on the side.
I’d love to hear different ways you come up with extra cash!
