Chores have always been SUCH a chore (see what I did there..). There are so many rules and best practices to follow and it can get overwhelming when the only thing you want to do after work and weekends is sit down for some much-needed R&R.
Keep reading to see how I manage to keep my space tidy even during the busy times at work so I can enjoy my R&R in a clean space.
Weekday Tidying
There is nothing I dread more than doing dishes after a long day, however I’ve learned from a young age that rinsing my utensils and plates immediately after I eat will save me some scrubbing time later when I do get around to cleaning the dishes. Whether you clean them by hand or place them in the dish washer, a quick rinse at home or some soap and water on your lunch containers at work will go a long way. That way when you get home you can just place them in the dish washer.
Separating your clothes as you put them in the hamper will help you save time later when you are loading the washing machine. Pre-loading the washer will also save you time from remembering to grab your clothes and load the next morning. That way as you get ready you can start the washer and throw the clothes in the dryer as you’re on your way out the door.
Bed time routine:
My attempt to get better sleep has begun with shutting off all electronic devices, in particular my phone. I sometimes will leave a mindless TV show on if I just want some noise in the house. Nowadays I like to do a quick run through of the house before bed to grab anything that’s lying around or that needs to be put up. Sometimes it’s a pile of items and creating the pile for the next day is okay too. Other times by just picking up a few items I end up having a neater space.
Pre-loading the dishwasher or washing machine is a great time saver. You can set a reminder on your phone to turn it on in the morning as soon as you wake up to start as you get ready or make some breakfast. Another thing I like to do is start the washer as soon as I get home so after dinner I can wash some TV and fold my laundry. It’s always done by the time I sit down and that way my clothes are fresh and ready for the next day.
Marie Kondo your Space:
Okay..okay, I get it. Once the show came on Netflix, everyone and their mom started to become Marie Kondo. I’m already a super neat and clean person, however some of her methods have truly changed my life and saved me time on having to reorganize. Her folding technique saved tremendous space in my drawers.
I also highly recommend figuring out what brings you joy and just keeping those items around. It’s a way better mentality than thinking well it’s still good or it’s still useful. I’ve found I have a more relaxing space to sleep now that I have removed the items that don’t bring me joy in my bedroom.
These are just some of my tips for getting some cleaning done during the week so I can have a clean and restful space to live in. After all the older I become the more I want to stay indoors and relax. Having a clean space to do that in makes it a much more enjoyable and stress-free experience. :)
I’m always searching for more tips to keep my space clean all the time. Would love to hear your tips!
